Workshops
Steve Trinkaus offers workshops and training sessions for municipal commissioners, municipal staff, and design professionals on all aspects of Low Impact Development and Environmentally Sensitive Design practices. The duration of the workshops and training sessions can range from 2 hours to 8 hours, depending upon the subject and the amount of detail requested. If you are interested in a workshop, please complete the information on the contact page and email to Trinkaus Engineering. The following is a brief description of different topics that can be presented.
Overview of Low Impact Developemnt
This workshop provides an overview of the basis concepts and goals of LID, the types of LID systems and how these systems function in the environment. The workshop will also discuss how the LID storm water treatment systems can be incorporated into new and existing land development projects. This workshop is geared for municipal commissions, municipal staff and design engineers who are not very familiar with LID concepts.
How to incorporate LID requirements into land use regulations
This workshop outlines the steps necessary for a municipality to adopt LID requirements into their land use regulations. It shows how to present the LID concept to the various stakeholders, such as the political leaders of the municipalities, land use commissioners, planning staff, municipal engineers, design engineers in the land use process to achieve a consensus for the LID regulations. It also discuss the process to reach out to the public, particularly the development community to achieve support for the LID regulations. This workshop is designed for land use commissioners, planning staff and the political leaders of a municipality.
Environmental Site Design Practices
This workshop provides a blueprint how to evaluate land using Environmental Site Design practices to create a project which respects the natural features by preserving trees and open space, minimization of land disturbance, reducing impervious surfaces and disconnection of impervious surfaces. This workshop is geared toward design professionals, such as civil engineers and landscape architects.
Design and implementation of LID Storm Water Treatment Systems
This workshop goes through the technical procedures to properly design and site LID treatment systems, such as Bioretention/Rain Gardens, Water Quality Swales, Infiltration Systems, and Permeable Pavment on the land. It provides technical guidance on what type of base information is necessary for the design of LID systems. It will also show how to incorporate LID treatment systems on a site to maintain the pre-development hydrology. This workshop is geared toward design professionals, such as civil engineers, landscape architects, municipal planning/wetland staff and town engineers.
Maintenance of LID systems
This workshop provides a description of the maintenance requirements for different LID systems. It also discusses the various methods that can be used to ensure the maintenance of these systems by the original and future owners. This workshop is directed to land use commissioners, planning and wetland staff.
